What is schema markup, and why it helps your SEO
Schema markup is a bit of structured code that tells search engines exactly what your content is — a business, a service, an FAQ, a review. It doesn't change what visitors see, but it helps Google understand and present your pages better.
What it can do for you
- Earn 'rich results' — star ratings, FAQs, and more in search.
- Help Google connect your business details (name, phone, area).
- Improve how your pages appear in AI and voice results.
The useful types for small business
LocalBusiness (your details), Service (what you offer), FAQPage (your Q&As), BreadcrumbList (your structure), and Review/AggregateRating (genuine reviews only). A good build adds these automatically.
A caution
Only mark up things that are truly on your page, and never fake reviews in schema — Google penalizes it. Honest, accurate markup is the goal.
