How to migrate a website without losing your SEO
A website migration — a redesign, a new platform, a new domain — can wipe out years of SEO if handled carelessly. Done right, you carry your rankings across intact. The difference is planning.
Protect what you've earned
- Map every old URL to its new equivalent and set 301 redirects.
- Keep your best-performing content and its structure.
- Preserve titles, headings, and important on-page elements.
- Don't accidentally leave 'noindex' on or block pages in robots.
Then confirm it worked
After launch, submit an updated sitemap, check for crawl errors and broken redirects in Search Console, and watch your rankings. Catching a migration mistake early saves months of lost traffic.
