Location page best practices (without thin content)
Location pages — a page targeting each city or area you serve — are powerful for local SEO. But done lazily (the same text with the city swapped), they become thin 'doorway' pages that Google ignores or penalizes. The difference is genuine value.
What makes a good location page
- Content genuinely specific to that area, not find-and-replace.
- Local details — service area, nearby landmarks, real relevance.
- The services you offer there and proof of your work.
- A clear call to action and local contact info.
Quality over quantity
Better to have fewer, genuinely useful location pages than hundreds of thin ones. Each should be a page you'd be happy for a customer in that city to land on.
