Mobile-first design: why it's non-negotiable now
For most small businesses, the majority of traffic is on mobile — and Google primarily uses the mobile version of your site to rank it. If your site isn't built mobile-first, you're losing customers and rankings at the same time.
What mobile-first means
Designing for the small screen first — fast load, tap-friendly buttons, readable text, and the key action (call, book, buy) within thumb's reach — then scaling up to desktop.
The common failures
- Tiny tap targets and text you have to pinch to read.
- Slow load on cellular data.
- A phone number that isn't tap-to-call.
- Menus and forms that are painful on a phone.
Test it honestly
Open your site on your own phone and try to do what a customer would — call, book, or buy. If it's frustrating for you, it's costing you business.
