www vs. non-www: does it matter?
One small technical question trips people up: should your website live at 'www.yoursite.com' or just 'yoursite.com'? The honest answer: which one matters far less than being consistent.
What actually matters
- Pick one version and stick with it.
- Redirect the other version to your chosen one.
- Make sure only one version is indexed by Google.
Why consistency matters
If both versions load without redirecting, Google sees two sites with duplicate content and split signals. Choose one, redirect the other, and you avoid the problem entirely. On a well-built site, this is handled for you.
