White space: why 'empty' space makes better websites
White space (or 'negative space') is the empty area around and between elements. It can feel like wasted room, but it's one of the most powerful tools in design — it makes content readable, focuses attention, and signals quality.
What white space does
- Makes text easier to read and scan.
- Draws the eye to what matters (like your CTA).
- Makes a site feel calm, professional, and premium.
Resist the urge to cram
Cluttered sites — everything fighting for attention — read as cheap and overwhelming. Giving elements room to breathe is often the single biggest upgrade a homemade site can get.
