How to write page titles and meta descriptions that get clicks
The page title and meta description are what show up in Google's results. They're effectively a free ad for your page — and small improvements can meaningfully lift how many searchers click through.
Page titles
- Lead with the main keyword, naturally.
- Keep it under ~60 characters so it doesn't get cut off.
- Make it specific and compelling, not generic.
- Unique on every page.
Meta descriptions
Around 150 characters that summarize the page and give a reason to click — a benefit, an offer, an answer. Google doesn't always use it, but a good one often earns more clicks. Write for the human skimming results.
