Loading states and skeleton screens: why they matter
Even a fast site sometimes needs a moment to load content. What you show during that moment — a blank screen, a spinner, or a 'skeleton' of the layout — changes how fast and polished the experience feels.
Good loading experiences
- Skeleton screens (grey placeholders shaped like the content) feel faster than spinners.
- Instant feedback when someone taps, so they know it worked.
- Never a frozen, blank screen with no sign of progress.
Perceived speed matters
Perceived performance is part of real performance. A site that acknowledges a tap and shows progress feels responsive, even in the moments it's working — and responsive feels trustworthy.
