Upselling and cross-selling on your website
Upselling (a better version) and cross-selling (a related product) increase the value of each customer — and done tastefully, they genuinely help people get more of what they need. The key is relevance, not pressure.
How to do it well
- Suggest genuinely relevant add-ons or upgrades.
- Frame it as helping, not pushing ('customers also add…').
- Keep it easy to accept or ignore.
- Don't distract from completing the main purchase.
Value first
The best upsells feel like helpful recommendations, not sales tactics. Suggest what the customer would genuinely benefit from, and you increase order value while improving their experience.
