Internal vs. external links: how to use both

Links come in two kinds: internal (to other pages on your site) and external (to other websites). Both have a place in good content — used well, they help readers and your SEO.

Internal links

Internal links help visitors discover more of your content and help search engines understand your site's structure and which pages matter. Link related pages together generously.

External links

Linking out to genuinely helpful, reputable sources adds value for readers and signals that your content is well-researched. Don't be afraid to send people to a great resource — it builds trust.

Use clear link text

For both, use descriptive link text (not 'click here') so people and search engines know where the link goes.
