How to use header tags (H1–H6) correctly
Header tags (H1 through H6) define the structure of your content — the headings and subheadings. Used correctly, they make pages easy to scan for readers and easy to understand for search engines and screen readers.
The rules
- One H1 per page — the main title.
- Use H2s for main sections, H3s for sub-points.
- Don't skip levels (H1 straight to H3) or use them just for size.
- Make headings descriptive of what follows.
Structure helps everyone
A logical heading hierarchy helps skimmers navigate, screen-reader users understand the page, and search engines grasp your content. It's a small habit with real SEO and accessibility payoff.
