How to choose a domain name for your business
Your domain name is the address customers type, say out loud, and remember. A good one is short, clear, and yours. Here's how to choose well.
What makes a good domain
- Short and easy to spell and say.
- Close to your business name.
- A .com if you can get it; a strong local option (like .ca) otherwise.
- No hyphens or numbers that cause confusion out loud.
Own it yourself
Whatever you choose, make sure the domain is registered in your name, on your account. It's one of your most valuable digital assets — never let a provider hold it for you.
Don't overthink keywords
An exact-match keyword domain isn't the ranking advantage it once was. A memorable brand domain plus good content and SEO beats a clunky keyword-stuffed one.
